Yep, bad news all right. I didn’t want to bore you with details of my recent physical, but part of it was the bloodwork and, well, other fluids. That\u2019s another blog. They said they would call with the results. And they called today.<\/p>\n

First of all, I\u2019m fit as a fiddle. Really, I am. I feel good, sometimes great. But there\u2019s an elephant in the room – well, almost an elephant. I\u2019ve gained some weight lately; yeah, it\u2019s kind of obvious. I kind of resemble a pear with toothpicks <\/a>stuck in it.<\/p>\n

No matter how hard I try I will never gain weight in my arms and legs. But the waistline is fair game. I\u2019ve watched it ebb and flow over the years, and right now it\u2019s high tide. I attributed it to my return to the motherland, or terre-mere, Acadiana<\/a>. But doc thought there was something else going on. It\u2019s not a significant weight gain, but still it\u2019s there \u2013 the elephant in the room.<\/p>\n

So Doc Brown said I\u2019m going to add to your orders and have them take a thyroid count. He suspected something out of whack there, and I was like “Wow, never thought of that!\u201d OK, I\u2019ve been watching what I eat, I\u2019ve cleared out my pantry with most full-fat cheeses and cookies, and I drink gallons of water, well quarts actually. I even try to have a vegetarian day once a week. So why isn\u2019t any of this working? Well, thyroid, of course! Hoo man, finally an answer.<\/p>\n

So today I got the call with the results. And it hit me like a ton of bricks.<\/p>\n

“All the numbers are good,” the nurse said.<\/p>\n

“Wait! All<\/em> the numbers?” I inquired.<\/p>\n

“Oh yes, everything looks fine, maybe a little anemia,” she chimed.<\/p>\n

“I mean, like all the numbers?” I repeated.<\/p>\n

“Well,” she paused as if reviewing the results, “Doctor Brown wants to run another CBC for the anemia in about six weeks. But other than that….”<\/p>\n

“And not anything else?” I had to probe.<\/p>\n

Nope.<\/p>\n

So where does one go when the answers dry up? I had an answer in the palm of my hand, or rather, in a test tube, and it slipped away.<\/p>\n
