There’s one more ball this evening in Lafayette. Thank God, I’m not going. I went to three downtown parades today, and I’ve caught all the beads I need. In fact, probably more beads than one human being can possibly use in his lifetime. Well, mine at least. It was a mini-feast with the family. They rent a spot in a restaurant parking lot where an RV is set up as Mardi Gras Central, and tents and fly tarps are erected to cover the tables, and I mean long table, lined with food.
What kind of food? Well, for starters there was a couple of fruit trays for breakfast, some boudin, if you’re so inclined, and trays and trays of vegetables, meats, king cakes, homemade cakes and a whole bunch of chips and dips.
Thirsty? Well, Mimosas are on the left table, Bloody Marys on the right. Quite a few ice chests full of beer, and believe it or not, I think I spotted a water bottle or two around here.
I ate, drank and watched parades from around 9:00 to 2:00. Of course I sneaked in a bit of work later in the afternoon. News doesn’t stop, you know.
Tomorrow’s Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent. I’ll probably head to the Cathedral at lunchtime. Supposed to fast as well. Beter time than New Year’s Day to start a diet. Let’s see if this one lasts.
